Products & surfaces

What We Recommend, and What We Avoid

Your floors, countertops, appliances, and finishes deserve thoughtful care. We select products for the particular surface and follow product labels and the surface manufacturer's recommendations.

Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are an investment, and different finishes can require different care. Before cleaning, we ask whether you have a preferred product or one recommended by your flooring manufacturer.

Many clients prefer Bona products; we can discuss using a homeowner-provided product when it is suitable for that floor and finish.

What we avoid: Excessive water, harsh or incompatible cleaners, and experimenting with products that may affect the finish.

Quartz Countertops

Quartz is durable, but not every household cleaner is appropriate for it. We use gentle methods and products suited to the specific countertop, following its manufacturer's care instructions.

What we avoid: Abrasive products, aggressive scrubbing, or harsh chemicals unless the countertop manufacturer expressly permits that use.

Granite & Natural Stone

Natural stone needs care suited to its stone type, finish, and any sealer. When appropriate, we use a stone-compatible cleaner. Products such as Method Daily Granite Cleaner may be considered only when their label and the surface's care guidance support that use.

What we avoid: Acidic or abrasive cleaners that may damage, etch, or dull the particular stone or finish.

Marble

Marble can be sensitive to acids and abrasion. We use a conservative approach, selecting products suitable for the particular marble surface and considering the homeowner's manufacturer-approved preferences.

What we avoid: Vinegar and other acidic cleaners, abrasive products, and aggressive scrubbing that may damage the finish.

Showers, Tile & Grout

Soap residue, mineral deposits, everyday soil, and discoloration in damp areas may need different approaches. We consider the tile, grout, stone, metal, and surrounding finishes before choosing a product and method. Products are used only on surfaces approved by their labels and in line with surface-care instructions.

What we avoid: Automatically reaching for the strongest chemical or using the same cleaner on every bathroom surface. Stronger does not always mean better.

What About Bleach?

Bleach has a place in cleaning, but it does not belong everywhere. When appropriate for the surface and task, we may use a bleach product selectively for approved cleaning or disinfection. We follow its directions, including ventilation, dilution when required, and contact time for disinfection.

What we avoid: Using bleach as an everyday all-purpose cleaner, applying it to incompatible materials, or mixing it with other cleaning products.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel can show fingerprints, residue, and streaks. We use suitable products and gentle techniques, following the appliance manufacturer's guidance and the direction of the grain when recommended.

What we avoid: Aggressive abrasive cleaning that may scratch or change the finish.

Your home. Your preferences.

Have a cleaning product you already love? Tell us.

We know you have invested in your floors, countertops, appliances, tile, and other finishes. If a manufacturer recommends a particular product, or you have a personal preference, we are happy to discuss using it when it is suitable for the surface and task. Please also tell us about fragrance preferences or product sensitivities before your visit.

Our goal is to use the right cleaning approach for the right surface, with care for your home and clear communication about your preferences.

Good to know

Cleaning vs. Sanitizing vs. Disinfecting: What's the Difference?

These words are often used interchangeably, but they describe different tasks.

Cleaning

Cleaning removes dirt, dust, grease, food residue, soap buildup, and many germs from surfaces. It is the foundation of a regular house-cleaning visit.

Sanitizing

Sanitizing reduces certain germs on a surface to levels considered safe under applicable public-health standards. The product, surface, and instructions matter. Sanitizing may be appropriate for specific situations, but it is not needed on every surface at every visit.

Disinfecting

Disinfecting uses an appropriate product to kill or inactivate the specific microorganisms covered by its label. Proper use includes cleaning first as directed, using it on an approved surface, and keeping the surface wet for the required contact time.

Why Does This Matter in Your Home?

More chemicals do not necessarily mean a cleaner home. Kitchens, bathrooms, floors, countertops, and high-touch areas can have different needs. We focus on thorough cleaning and use additional sanitizing or disinfecting methods where appropriate, rather than automatically applying disinfectant everywhere.

If someone in your household has been ill or you have particular cleaning concerns, tell us before the visit so we can discuss the appropriate service and scope.

Our approach: Clean thoroughly, use products appropriately, and treat your home's surfaces with care.
